Rippon Winery is a beautiful new architecturally designed building located at Rippon Vinyard on Lake Wanaka. Timberworks had the priviledge of working with the clients and their architect to come up with an attractive Post and Beam structure for the main eating hall in the new Winery Building.
The Post and Beam design consists of four Cruck Bents along with exposed underpurlins and Hip Rafters. The Cruck bents included curved laminated beams which were connected to the Bent rafters and Posts using a combination of hidden and exposed steel hardware. The rest of the Cruck Bents were joined using traditional mortise & tenon joinery. The clients chose to use Larch timber as they had a small stand of mature Larch trees on the property that produced some beautiful timber that made up about 2/3 of the project. The Cruck Bents are structural and were designed to handle a heavy slate roof that may be installed in the future.
