Timberworks would like to able to offer Post and Beam Schools in the future where students can come and learn the craft of Traditional (or contemporary) Post and Beam construction at our workshop in beautiful Ruby Bay, Nelson. Timberworks is also open to clients carrying out some of the work on their own Post and Beam frame if they are interested.
These schools would typically be live-in and last from one weekend to two weeks depending on the project. The students would pay a fee for the tuition and board and get the chance to work on an actual Timberworks project while learning all the basic skills of Post and Beam construction. The students experience would include exposure to all aspects of traditional and some modern forms of Post and Beam construction including a Post and Beam raising. Students would then be able to make use of Timberworks Design and Engineering services for their own project in the future.
A suitable project for a school is one where a Timberworks client is prepared to let students work on their project in return for a discount on the product. The project would need to be located within a few hours drive of Nelson.
At this stage Timberworks would love to hear from any potential students who would be interested in the school and also any potential clients who would be interested in a discounted Post and Beam frame. We have started a database for both and once we have a suitable job and enough students we will get the school underway.
